San Felipe de Jesús, along with twenty-five other Christians, was crucified in Nagasaki, Japan, in 1597. Their sacrifices became known as the "Twenty-Six Martyrs of Japan" and were canonized as saints in 1862. San Felipe de Jesús is honored in Cuernavaca, particularly in the Cathedral, where his memory is cherished.
